History

We believe understanding History is crucial to understanding the modern world and our place in it. Through a carefully-planned and well-delivered curriculum, we enable students to develop as critical thinkers, able to interrogate evidence and form independent conclusions. Our students are not only trained to ask complex questions about the past, but also to not take evidence at face value. As the National Curriculum says:

A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and

understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity

to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions,

think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change,

the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own

identity and the challenges of their time.

Our KS3 curriculum aims to provide students with a broad, balanced and fair account of British and world History, generally through a chronological approach from medieval England onwards. We use enquiry questions to focus and shape learning over a sequence of lessons.
