Personal Development

What is Personal Development?

Personal Development is an opportunity for you to learn about things you might not discuss in other subjects; it is an opportunity for questions and discussion to deepen your understanding of the world today.

It includes our study of PSHE and RSE; PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. It is a subject that helps you learn about yourself, other people, and the world around you. In PSHE, you explore how to look after your health and wellbeing, build positive friendships and relationships, and make good decisions about things like money, careers, and your future.

RSE stands for Relationships and Sex Education. This is the part of Personal Development that focuses on understanding healthy relationships, consent, respect, and sexual health in an age-appropriate and safe way. It helps you learn about your body, how it changes, and how to make choices that keep you and others safe.

We teach Personal Development because it helps prepare you for life. It will help you build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience so you can handle challenges, make informed decisions, and understand other people’s lives and experiences. These lessons also teach you how to keep yourself healthy, safe, and respectful in relationships, online and offline, and how to start thinking about and planning for your future. They are about giving you the knowledge and skills you need to live a happy, safe, and successful life, now and as an adult.
