Equality at Bishop Justus

Aquinas is committed to the promotion of equality throughout the Trust so that all individuals have equality of opportunity and do not suffer any discrimination, directly or indirectly. In accordance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, as embodied by the Equality Act 2010 (the Act), Aquinas is committed to:

  • Eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act;
  • Advancing equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not;
  • Fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

Aquinas has an Equality Policy and a single equality scheme and statement which reflect the aims of the Act followed by all academies within the Trust.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy

Our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy identifies key aspects of our work which together allow us to take a holistic approach to promoting equality, improving diversity and maximising inclusion.

Our three-year strategy, entitled ‘Valuing All’, gives rise to an annual action plan which is regularly reviewed.

Our EDI Curriculum Lead Carolyn Stacey has met year 7 students, reflecting on their first term at Bishop Justus (this included our new Virtual Prefects!). It is pleasing to see how our work towards students' sense of belonging has positively impacted our new students in year 7.

"The school is nice, I have learnt there is more to school than just discipline, it's fun too. There's ways to find someone who is interested in the same things, for example I really like RE and I can ask questions without feeling nervous. I also enjoy the languages lessons. I have felt very welcome in the school and have enjoyed making new friends" - Nicky

"I like the clubs, there are lots of opportunities, really nice teachers, interesting subjects and so far everyone is nice" - Michelle

"I like the clubs, English lessons and the astros make break and lunch fun." - Wesley

"School is fun, there's a subject for everybody's interests and I have been able to set up a STEM club which I am very excited about" - Michael

"The school is interesting, the teachers are nice and the clubs are really fun, I want to set one up for year 7 basketball. I am excited to be a Virtue Prefect" - Shyloh
